On the occasion of Maundy Thursday, a day before Good Friday, religious traditions were observed with devotion and reverence in the Catholic and Protestant churches of the city.
Father Joyson said that special prayer services were held in remembrance of Lord Jesus Christ washing the feet of his 12 disciples and the Last Supper.
Catholic Church Fathers Philip and Joyson, in their address, said that Maundy Thursday is the day when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples to teach that a true leader is one who serves others. This act marked the beginning of the message of sacrifice, which was fulfilled the next day on Good Friday when Jesus was crucified.
The Fathers further explained that during the Last Supper, Jesus symbolically represented bread and wine as his body and blood, indicating his upcoming sacrifice. On Good Friday, this sacrifice became the ultimate expression of love, service, and devotion, remembered by the world to this day.
Special Prayer Service Held on Thursday in Church Premises
A special prayer service was organized in the church premises on Thursday, attended by Chandrakant Mishra, Seema Devi, Shipra, Grace Minj, Mamta, and many other devotees. All offered silent prayers remembering the sacrifice and love of Lord Jesus.
Father Philip said that both the acts — the foot washing and the Last Supper — teach us to walk the path of love, forgiveness, and service to humanity. This, he emphasized, is the true spiritual message of Good Friday.
