5 years rigorous imprisonment to 3 accused for committing irregularities in awarding a contract

*FIVE YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO THREE ACCUSED INCLUDING THEN GM(TELECOM), A PROPRIETOR OF PRIVATE COMPANY FOR COMMITTING IRREGULARITIES IN AWARDING A CONTRACT*

The  Competent Court at Patna has sentenced Shri B.B.Rai, then General Manager(Telecom), Patna & Shri Rampati Chikhaiyar, then TDE, both to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.Six Lakh each and Shri Perwez Ahmad, Proprietor of M/s Nalanda Telecom Service, Patna to undergo five years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs.16 Lakh.

CBI had registered the instant case on 29.01.1996 against Shri B.B.Rai, GM(Telecom), Patna and others.It was alleged that Shri B.B.Rai, while working as Director(Officiating), Telecom South, Gaya had awarded a contract for repair of faulty EPBT Cards to M/s Nalanda Telecom Service, without going through the laid down formalities. After investigation, Chargesheet was filed on 26.03.2002 against five accused in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Patna including those three who have been convicted/sentenced now.  Two other chargesheeted  accused died during trial.

The Trial Court found said accused guilty and convicted them.
